What is Retrofit mode in the dashboard?
The dashboard has a separate Retrofit toggle with energy-focused tools. What it covers and how to use it.
At the top of the dashboard sidebar is a toggle between Renovation (default) and Retrofit. Retrofit mode swaps the tools in the sidebar for an energy-efficiency-focused set.
What is in Retrofit mode
Assess phase
- Compliance check: are you affected by MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards) for landlords, or new EPC requirements?
Plan phase
- Cost Calculator for retrofit-specific works (insulation, heat pumps, solar)
- Grant Finder: check eligibility for ECO4, Great British Insulation Scheme, Boiler Upgrade Scheme, regional schemes
- ROI Calculator: estimate payback period on insulation, heat pump, solar, etc.
- Improvement Planner: recommended order of works (fabric first, then heating)
Improve phase
- Verify Credentials: check that an installer's MCS / TrustMark / DEA certifications are real and current
Complete phase
- Verify Results: post-install quality checks
- EPC Lookup: find your property's current EPC rating from the official register
When to use Retrofit mode
- You are doing energy-only work (insulation, heat pump, solar) on an existing home.
- You are a landlord who needs to bring a property up to EPC C.
- You are buying a property and want to plan retrofit upgrades.
For a renovation that includes some retrofit work (insulation as part of a loft conversion, for example), stay in Renovation mode and use the calculator there. The retrofit tools are for retrofit-only projects.
