Why retrofit now
Typical saving a year once a home is well insulated
Off a heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The rental standard government has confirmed for 2030
Years for most measures to pay for themselves
The cheapest energy is the energy you never lose. Insulate first, then heat with less.

Three ways to use less, and pay less.

Insulation, where it pays back first
Loft and cavity wall insulation are usually the cheapest way to cut heat loss. Solid walls cost more but transform a cold Victorian terrace. We show typical costs and the savings to expect.

Heat pumps, the gas boiler replacement
An air source heat pump runs your heating without burning gas. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £7,500 off the cost, and a well-insulated home keeps running costs sensible.

Solar, lower bills for decades
Rooftop solar offsets daytime electricity and pairs neatly with a heat pump. Payback depends on roof aspect and how much you use during the day, both of which the calculator factors in.
Know your number
EPC is the score that sets the rules.
An Energy Performance Certificate rates a home from A to G. Most UK homes sit at D. Rentals must reach E today, and government has confirmed a standard equivalent to EPC C by October 2030, with a £10,000 cost cap and fines up to £30,000 for missing it.
