What is a Scope of Works document?

A contractor-comparable spec sheet generated from your calculator answers. The reason quotes become comparable.

The Scope of Works is a PDF document the calculator generates after you have refined your estimate. It is our most useful feature, and the one that actually changes how renovation quotes work.

What it contains

  • A clear, structured checklist and specification for every part of the work.
  • Materials grade, finish level and labour expectations per trade.
  • The specific answers you gave during refinement, threaded into the doc so contractors see what assumptions are in.

Why it matters

Without a Scope of Works, every contractor quotes against their own interpretation of "a new bathroom". Their numbers look wildly different. You can't compare them because they are not quoting for the same thing.

With a Scope of Works, every contractor quotes against exactly the same scope. Now their prices become comparable, and you can see whether one contractor is genuinely cheaper or just leaving things out.

What it does NOT contain

The Scope of Works never includes specific prices. The whole point is that contractors quote their own price for the scope you have specified. Showing prices would anchor them and defeat the purpose.

How to get one

  1. Open the calculator.
  2. Complete the initial five steps to get your first estimate.
  3. Click "Refine your estimate" and answer the refinement questions (about 2 minutes).
  4. Once accuracy hits Strong or Very Strong, the Scope of Works download unlocks on the results page.

Send the PDF to every contractor you ask to quote. They will thank you for it.
