Turning an estimate into a project

How the Create-Project button in the dashboard calculator works, and what gets carried over.

If you are signed in and use the dashboard calculator at Dashboard → Budget → Cost Calculator, the results page shows two extra options:

Create a project from this estimate

This carries your calculator answers into a new project:

  • Project type (e.g. Kitchen Renovation)
  • Quality tier (Essential / Quality / Luxury)
  • Postcode
  • Budget range (the low and high of your estimate)
  • Description (auto-filled, you can edit it)

You land on the project setup form pre-filled with these. Tweak the name and any details, then click Create. The project then becomes the place you track quotes, photos, snags and progress.

Just save this estimate

If you are not ready to commit to a project yet, "Just save this estimate to my account" simply links the estimate to your account. You can come back to it later (we are building the saved-estimates list at Dashboard → Saved Estimates, currently in development).

Why this matters

Most homeowners go through the calculator, write the number on a Post-it, and lose track of it. Turning the estimate into a project means the number stays connected to the real spending, the real quotes and the real finished job, which makes the next estimate you do far more accurate.
